'Productive, not progress' says McCarthy on Biden meet
STORY: The Democratic president and the top congressional Republican have struggled to make a deal, as McCarthy pressures the White House to agree to spending cuts in the federal budget that Biden considers "extreme," and the president pushes new taxes that Republicans have rejected.
McCarthy told reporters after over an hour of talks with Biden "we're going to let the teams work tonight, see if we can get progress" to try to find common ground.
"I thought the meeting was productive, I thought it was more productive than the other meetings. But we still have differences," McCarthy said. "We left the meeting with directing the members of the staff to get back together, work through the night."
