A prolific shoplifter, from Burnley, is back behind bars after stealing from stores.

Moazam Ali, of Leyland Road, Burnley, has been sentenced after breaching his criminal behaviour order (CBO) twice by entering stores in Burnley and stealing.

He has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison for theft and breaching his community behaviour disorder.

The breaches occurred on March 18 and April 13 this year, when he entered Marks & Spencer and Home Bargains, respectively.

He stole six air fresheners, worth just under £12 from Home Bargains.

Court documents said: "The offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

"The defendant has a flagrant disregard for court orders... [and due to] previous convictions, repeated offending, [it being the] third breach of the criminal behaviour order, [and] a deliberate breach."

It is not the first time that Ali, 36, has spent time behind bars for theft.

In January 2023, he was jailed for 12 weeks after breaching a criminal behaviour order four times.

A police spokesperson said: “A prolific shoplifter has been sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment for theft and breaching his community behaviour order (CBO).

“Moazam Ali, of Leyland Road, Burnley, was sentenced after breaching his CBO twice by entering stores in Burnley and stealing.

“Burnley neighbourhood team will continue to target our prolific offenders causing issues on the town for the business owners and hard-working folk who visit the shops.”
