Left-wing demonstrators rallied on the streets of Paris on April 27 against second-round election candidates Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, whom they decried as offering a choice between capitalism and fascism.

Smoke bombs and projectiles were thrown at police, according to reports, with police responding with tear gas.

Hundreds of mostly young protesters gathered at Place de la Republique, reports said.
