Protesters Block Islamabad Highway After Arrest of Imran Khan

Demonstrators blocked a highway in Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad on May 10 as they called for the release of Imran Khan, the former prime minister and head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) political party, who was arrested a day earlier.

This footage shows protesters facing lines of police officers on Srinigar Highway near Islamabad’s Police Lines Headquarters where, according to Pakistani media, Khan was due to be prosecuted on Wednesday.

Police responded to protesters by firing tear gas and rubber bullets, according to local media

The PTI accused police of opening fire and injuring unarmed protesters on the highway, but Storyful could not independently confirm those allegations. Credit: Qurat Ul Ain via Storyful
