Protesters Defy Ban, Rally in Istanbul on Women's Day

Turkish women defied a protest ban on Wednesday, March 8, to march on the streets of Istanbul for International Women’s Day.

According to reports, organizers had been forbidden for a second year in a row from marching through Turkey’s biggest city.

On Wednesday night, local media reported police used tear gas to disperse protesters after a group attempted to enter Taksim Square.
