Pundits all backing the same team with Hull KR and Wigan Warriors predictions delivered

Matthew Shaw - Rugby League Live
What a story we have on our hands here. In one corner we have Wigan Warriors, a club threatening to begin a new dynasty with a side poised for success for many, many years. In the other, you have Hull KR, a club that has been scratching and clawing their way up the proverbial mountain, desperate to win a trophy and prove they belong at the top table. Both clubs have so, so much on the line here, and that should be apparent. Deciding a victor is very, very tough. Hull KR have proven on several occasions in the last 15 months that they can hurt the Warriors, beating them three times. They've proven they've got it in them. But then Wigan are just so good, it always takes a brave person to bet against them. However, I just have a feeling the Robins will pinch this one, they've had a long break to prepare and I think that serves them well.
Prediction: Hull KR by 4

It's going to be another tight one. And could be another belting Challenge Cup classic. Yes, Rovers had their issues against Warrington last week but those right-side defensive deficiencies were so uncharacteristic that you can't imagine them being picked apart again so easily for the rest of Willie Peters' new four-year deal. If captain Elliot Minchella does, as expected, return from injury he will make a massive difference in both defence and attack. Wigan, of course, are a ruthless machine; you don't become Super League and World Club Challenge winners for no good reason. They'll be desperate to get to Wembley after being denied by Rovers so cruelly at this stage last year. But the East Yorkshire club, who have already beaten Wigan once this season, are due a big performance. And I think they'll deliver it when it matters most.
Prediction: Rovers by 7

I keep getting this nagging feeling. It's probably old age or something I ate for lunch, but I have this feeling that KR's name is on the Challenge Cup this year. Last year was a golden opportunity to win the trophy for only the second time, but with the memory of that loss fresh in their mind, the experience of last season can be a real advantage to take into this semi-final, and should they win, the final.
Having a nagging feeling it could be KR's year is one thing, seeing them make that a reality is something else given the quality they need to come through in the semi-final. Yes Rovers have recently beaten Wigan and beaten them well, but that was at home and away from Craven Park, KR have been an all together different beast this year.
Neutral territory negates that to some extent, but Rovers still need to find a way to play their best rugby on the road and that needs to start this weekend. The battle between the halves intrigues me and Mikey Lewis needs a calm, clear head to help his side pull this off. Who uses the bench best if the weather remains very hit, will also be key. This one is a real toss-up for me, but that nagging feeling won't let me go anywhere but a narrow KR win.
Prediction: Rovers by 2

With Hull KR’s recent dismantling of Wigan fresh in the memory, the two sides meet again this Saturday in the Challenge Cup semi-final. And what an occasion it promises to be. They say the cup has lost some of its magic in recent years, but try telling that to anyone in East Hull this week. This is what it’s all about. An underdog challenging the heavyweight, and looking to humble them again. These two sides have recent history with the Robins defeating the Cherry and Whites at this very stage last season. More recently, Wigan also took Rovers to the cleaners in the Super League semi. That was built on a fast start and the game was over before it got going. Rovers will learn from that. They’ll be full of confidence, and so they should be. They’ve shown the traits needed to win big games this year. They’re great with the ball but they’re also functional without it. They’re tough and resilient, and so long as they show those qualities, then they will give themselves every chance. Will that be enough? Time will tell. But only a best performance of the season will be good enough to return to Wembley. What a story that would be, and one that would leave Ben O’Donnell, who sadly passed away this week, proud as punch as he watches on with the team in the sky for the first time. Ben was a top bloke who was well-known to local media within the city, and a Rovers win would be a fitting tribute for him.
Prediction: Rovers by 2
