Two dogs who were saved from life and certain death in atrocious conditions on the streets of Pakistan, need another hero after their beloved owner passed away.

Petunia and Taffy were left in the care of a rescue charity, Almost Home in Moira, after tragedy struck their home and together with seven other dogs, the mixed breed siblings were taken in.

But 20 months on they are still waiting to adopted. Aged around five, they come as a pair and cannot be rehomed with cats but their carers say would make a fantastic addition to the right home and can live with other dogs.

Karen Matthews, founder of the charity, said: "They arrived with us in 2022 and had originally been rescued from Pakistan where they had led an appalling life.

"Thankfully the girls found their safe haven with a lovely lady called Chris but sadly Chris passed away and nine of beloved dogs came to us at Almost Home. Tuna and Tuffs as we call them, are the last remaining two who are still looking for a home.

"They're both very clever and despite their life of heartbreak and hurdles they always greet us with a smile. They absolutely love playing together and enjoy dancing around with the volunteers. Both are super cuddly and enjoy nothing more than getting belly rubs in the field.

"Because these girls have come from a tough background, they require understanding and patience to settle into a home environment. They’re both unsure of new situations but their confidence is building and in the right home they will thrive.

"And we have no doubt that they will give unlimited happiness in return for your dedication and love."
