Purdue Varsity Glee Club returning to Syracuse

Feb. 8—SYRACUSE — The Purdue Varsity Glee Club is returning to Syracuse March 1 after a one-year hiatus.

This will be the group's only performance in northeastern Indiana during the first half of 2024, a news release stated, including gospel, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, classical choral selections, barbershop, folk melodies, patriotic standards, country and novelty tunes.

A number of Goshen and Elkhart County students are members of the Glee Club. From Goshen are Nathan Gibson, Benjamin Schneider and Drew Stahly, as well at Patrick Petersen of Elkhart.

"With integrity, passion, unparalleled showmanship and attention to every detail, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club have proudly served as ambassadors of the University with honor and dignity for more than 115 years," the release stated. "This select ensemble has entertained on behalf of Purdue University for campus, community, state, national and international events, averaging between 50-60 appearances each year. Embodying the spirit of service above self, the men of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club represent different backgrounds and hometowns across the country, consistently maintaining a high level of academic excellence.

"Under the direction of William Griffel, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club continues to share a sound all its own through one-of-a-kind arrangements in tailor-made performances for audiences of all ages."

The 90-minute performance starts at 7:30 p.m., at the Wawasee High School, 1 Warrior Path. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available from the Chautauqua-Wawasee website starting at $22 for general admission and $30 for VIP seating. Oakwood Resort is offering a ticketholder discount for dining at the Pier & Back Porch Restaurant.

"Use your ticket before the concert on the night of March 1, for a 15% discount on menu food items, alcoholic beverages excluded," the release added. "Digital copies of tickets will be accepted when shown to your server. The concert ends at 9 p.m., which is the closing time for the restaurant, so dinner before the concert is advised."
