Purple Paddle returns for a second year in Norfolk

Paddleboarders are organising a colourful display to raise money for a bereavement charity.

The Purple Paddle event, co-hosted by the Norfolk Paddleboards group and bereavement charity Nelson's Journey, returns for a second year and aims to paint the waters of the Wensum with a striking display of purple.

The event will start at 10am from the Red Lion at Bishopgate on Saturday and feature a leisurely paddle through Norwich city centre.

More experienced participants can sign up to face a demanding 14km point-to-point paddle during the afternoon, commencing from the Red Lion and concluding at the White Heron pub in Brundall.

A rest stop at Thorpe Ferry will be available.

The charity's cheer-teams are planning to station themselves on Norwich bridges to encourage and support paddlers in the event.

Becky Bushell, funding and marketing officer at Nelson’s Journey, said: “Last year’s Purple Paddle was a tremendous success, highlighting the incredible community support and the benefits of paddleboarding for mental health and wellbeing.

"We are eager to build on that success this year, raising even more vital funds for our cause.

“Paddleboarding not only offers a unique way to enjoy the beautiful waterways of Norfolk but also aligns with our mission to boost the self-esteem, self-belief, and wellbeing of bereaved children and young people,”

Places for this event are still available on the paddle for those with the necessary experience and can be booked via norfolkpaddleboards.co.uk .
