Yahoo News 'Quarter of all Leave voters' to abandon big parties and vote for UKIP or Farage
A quarter of all voters who backed leaving the European Union say they will vote either UKIP or for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party in the future.
The results were revealed in a YouGov poll.
The findings were published as experts predicted there could be a surge in votes for the non-traditional parties at the next General Election in the continuing fallout from Brexit.
The survey found that the Conservatives had the backing of 32% of supporters, Labour 31% and Lib Dems on 12%.
But other parties – such as UKIP, Green and the Brexit Party – have, between them, 25% of the vote, the study found.
UKIP was on 7% and Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party 5%.
And that vote surged among those who want Britain out of the EU.
Among Leave voters, the number increased to 14% for UKIP and 11% for the Brexit Party, mostly migrating from the Conservatives, said YouGov.
The poll was released on the same as the result in the Newport West by-election was announced, with Labour retaining the House of Commons seat but the vote hinted at findings similar to those in the YouGov poll.
That showed a decline in support for the two major parties at the expense of the smaller ones.
At the same time, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage has said he will stand for the Brexit Party in European elections – if Britain takes part in them.
The MEP promised that the British public would launch a ‘fightback’ against established politicians.
‘I’ll be leading the Brexit party into those European elections as it now looks certain they will happen.
‘Am I happy about it? No I’m not – actually I’ve got many other things in my life I’d like to do.
‘I thought we’d won the Brexit battle but I’m not going to, after 25 years of endeavour, watch British politicians roll us over.
‘This is the fightback and they’re going to be very surprised by what they get.’
