The Queen will reportedly call for the country to show 'resolve' and 'self-discipline' in her pre-recorded TV address from Windsor later today (5th April).

According to The Sunday Times, Her Majesty will call on the nation to be strong amid worries people will abandon social distancing and flock to parks and beaches as the weather warms up.

She will reportedly say: 'I hope in years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge. And those who come after us will say that the Britons of his generation were as strong as any. That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humoured resolve and of fellow-feeling still characterise this country.'

It's only the fourth time that the Queen has personally addressed the nation. She last made an unexpected televised address in 2002, on the eve of her mother's funeral. Before this, she spoke to the public in 1997 following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and in 1991, when she addressed the nation during the Gulf War.

Yesterday saw the UK's highest daily death toll from coronavirus, with 708 passing away in 24 hours. Yet many ignored the social distancing advice from the government with police issuing fines and moving people on from parks.

Last week, the Queen shared a personal written message with the nation, where she stressed the 'vitally important role' the public has to play in the Covid-19 crisis, something which she will likely reiterate in her address.

'We are all being advised to change our normal routines and regular patterns of life for the greater good of the communities we live in and, in particular, to protect the most vulnerable within them,' wrote the Queen. 'At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation’s history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.'

It was confirmed on 25 March that Prince Charles had tested positive for Covid-19 and was self-isolating at Balmoral in Scotland with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who had tested negative for the virus.

He has since shared a personal video message, describing the virus as a 'strange, frustrating and often distressing experience'.

The Queen's televised address will be broadcast at 8pm tonight.
