The preview — which you can watch above — teases a chaotic journey ahead as Queenie dates, parties and pays homage to Bridget Jones’ sexy bunny dress code blunder under the guise of living her best life.
“I’m loud, confrontational,” she says in the sneak peek. “I can’t not be a strong Black woman. That’s the problem.”
Based on journalist and author Candice Carty-Williams’ bestselling novel, the story follows Queenie Jenkins (played by Criminal Record’s Dionne Brown), “a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in south London, straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither,” per the official synopsis. “After a messy breakup with her long-term boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places and begins to realize she has to face the past head-on before she can rebuild.”
The ensemble also includes R&B singer Bellah in her acting debut as Queenie’s best friend Kyazike, and Samuel Adewunmi (Secret Invasion, The Watch) as Frank.
Carty-Williams serves as showrunner and executive-produces alongside Steve November and Sarah Conroy through their Further South Productions company in association with Lionsgate TV.
