Queen's heartbreaking last words to Liz Truss just days before she died

The late Queen's touching final words to Liz Truss, spoken just days before Her Majesty's passing, have been disclosed by the ex-Prime Minister.

Liz Truss, who was appointed as Prime Minister by the Queen only two days prior to her death on September 6, 2022, had made the journey to Balmoral to meet with the ailing monarch. Photographs from their encounter depicted a visibly frail Queen Elizabeth II greeting Ms Truss, marking her as the 15th Prime Minister during the Queen's remarkable 70-year reign.

Yet, merely two days after this appointment, on September 8, the sad news broke that the Queen had died peacefully at her Scottish residence, leading to King Charles III ascending the throne.

In a candid revelation during an interview with The Sun's Never Mind the Ballots podcast, Ms Truss shared the poignant last words the Queen said to her: "I'll see you next week."

These words, unbeknownst to both at the time, foreshadowed a future meeting that would never occur. Instead, Ms Truss found herself managing the country's mourning period following the Queen's demise and subsequently resigned from her position as Prime Minister after seven weeks, amidst the economic turmoil triggered by her mini-budget, reports the Mirror.

The former Prime Minister has shared some insights into her conversation with the Queen during their meeting. She stated: "She was an extremely wise woman and so, so on the ball. She talked a lot about all of the issues that were going on, all of the issues in the PM's inbox."

Ahead of the release of her book 'Ten Years To Save The West', Ms Truss is making appearances across various media platforms where she also discusses her encounters with the late Queen. Recalling their meeting in 2022, she noted that the 96 year old monarch "seemed to have grown frailer" since her last public appearance.

"We spent around 20 minutes discussing politics," writes Ms Truss. "She was completely attuned to everything that was happening, as well as being typically sharp and witty. Towards the end of our discussion, she warned me that being Prime Minister is incredibly ageing. She also gave me two words of advice: 'Pace yourself.' Maybe I should have listened."

Despite her declining health, the late Queen wished to spend her final summer at Balmoral, situated in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. In late July 2022, she boarded a private helicopter, expected to take a break from Royal duties before returning to England in early October.

Among the visitors she received during her final days was the Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields - Moderator of the Church of Scotland General Assembly - who joined the late Queen, King Charles and Princess Anne for dinner and lunch.

The clergyman who spent time with the Queen following a sermon at Braemar and Crathie Parish Church, spoke highly of her, saying she was 'the life and soul of things' before her passing. He shared with The Times: "It was a fantastic visit. Her memory was absolutely amazing and she was really full of fun."

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme, he recalled that the Queen was in 'great form'. "She was in really good spirits - obviously frail, you can see that, but absolutely on the ball," Dr Greenshields said.

He fondly remembered how she talked about her past, her love for Balmoral, her parents, Prince Philip, horses, and showed keen interest in church and national affairs.

Dr Greenshields also reflected on her presence, noting, "This frail lady came in but there was still that sense of who she was and that real sense of making you feel immediately at ease, engaging with you immediately in conversation, a nice bright smile, everything you would expect of your monarch."
