Questions remain over former Darlington store site as it's still up for rent
Questions over what's next for the site of a former Darlington store remain after the unit remains empty more than six months after closing.
Wickes, which was based in Haughton Retail Park, closed at the end of 2023 after the retailer confirmed that it would be winding down its operations in the town.
Following the announcement, the former Wickes unit in the retail park appeared on the online estate agent site Rightmove - but it now seems that there hasn't been any movement in the last six months, despite the building still being on the site.
On the listing, which is through Adderstone Asset Management in Newcastle, the description highlights that it is the 'former Wickes' building.
It then goes on to say that the "strong Retail Park close to the town centre and £500m of Public and Private Sector investment attracted to Darlington over the last five years," makes it an ideal location for a company.
The Wickes store, which has 146 car parking spaces, a rear service yard, and a scope to expand the unit for a garden centre, according to the listing, covers a huge 26,000 square feet of space.
Within the online listing, it's not revealed how much the rent on the Wickes building is, but does confirm that the price will be confirmed on enquiry.

The listing remains online on both Rightmove and Adderstone Asset Management websites.
Despite the closing of the Darlington store, it's not all doom and gloom for Wickes in the region after they opened a new store in St Andrews Retail Park in Durham back in May.
Other stores remain in Newcastle, Sunderland, and Northallerton.
