Questlove is back with another book.

The Roots drummer revealed, exclusively with PEOPLE, that he will be publishing a new book on music. Hip-Hop Is History, out June 11, is forthcoming from the author’s book imprint AUWA Books.

“I’ve been with hip-hop since the start, and it has been with me just as long,” Questlove says. “It has been my friend and my companion, my coach and my counselor, a source of information and inspiration.”

Hip-Hop is History, written with frequent collaborator Ben Greenman, delves into Questlove’s long history with the genre, according to a statement shared with PEOPLE. Questlove, who grew up in a musical family in Philadelphia, listened to hip-hop extensively as a kid, and even began to make his own music early on. Those early efforts paid off long-term; he has since won six Grammy awards.

In the book, Questlove will explore the cultural and creative origins of the genre and highlight both influential hits and those that have largely been forgotten. He will also include previously-unknown stories, offering his perspective as both “an obsessive fan” and a musician within the genre himself.

Questlove is no stranger to the publishing industry. The musician, also a New York Times best-selling author, has already written several books, including Creative Quest and Music Is History, written with Greenman, as well as the middle grade novel, The Rhythm of Time, written with S.A. Cosby.
