QuikTrip planning truck stop at Lapel exit

Apr. 2—ANDERSON — A second truck stop has been proposed at Exit 214 of Interstate 69.

QuikTrip Corp. is seeking to rezone 6.97 acres directly across from the Love's Truck Stop on Ind. 13.

The property is owned by CareFree Homes, which has had a residential development to the north of Ind. 13 for several years.

Access to the property would be along Carefree Drive which is the access drive to the GetGo store at the exit and to the housing development.

The request is to rezone the property from general commercial to highway commercial.

According to the QuikTrip website, there are no locations currently in Indiana.

The Madison County Plan Commission will consider the rezoning request on April 9 at 9 a.m. in the council chambers of the Madison County Government Center.

Since the Love's truck stop opened, there have been numerous concerns about traffic in the area which is close to several housing developments.

There was a Pilot truck stop located on the northside of Interstate-69, but it closed several years ago.

To the north of the Interstate there is a parking lot for trucks near the Indiana Department of Transportation facility.
