Quiz Lady marks the final movie role for Paul Reubens
Paul Reubens sadly passed away in July 2023, but we will see him on screen again in Quiz Lady, which marks his final movie role.
Following the new comedy's world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, the LA Times reported that Reubens appears as himself in a cameo in a brief scene alongside Holland Taylor.
The cameo role was filmed last June and the star had also filmed interviews for an upcoming HBO documentary produced by Josh and Benny Safdie, which doesn't yet have a release date.
After Reubens's death in July 2023, Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Stephanie Beatriz – who starred with him in Netflix's Pee-wee's Big Holiday – was among those to pay tribute to the late star.
"I'm so so sad you are gone," she wrote. "Absolute legend, one of the nicest people I have ever met. An icon from my childhood, who I was lucky enough to work with in my adulthood. I will miss your birthday texts and your Christmas cards."
Reubens died at the age of 70 following a "privately fought" battle with cancer over the past six years.
Quiz Lady stars Awkwafina as the gameshow-obsessed Anne who ends up having to work with her estranged sister Jenny, played by Sandra Oh, to clear their mother's gambling debts and save Anne's kidnapped dog.
The comedy will debut on Disney+ in the UK and on Hulu in the US on November 3, and it also stars Jason Schwartzman, Tony Hale and Will Ferrell. It was directed by Jessica Yu and written by Hocus Pocus 2's Jen D'Angelo.
Its early reviews have led to a strong 86% Rotten Tomatoes rating at the time of writing.
Quiz Lady is released on November 3 on Disney+ in the UK and on Hulu in the US.
