R. Kelly claims he can't read words 'beyond a grade-schooler'

R. Kelly has claimed he can't read or understand words "beyond that of a grade-schooler".

The shamed rapper has admitted he doesn't read any correspondence around the legal cases surrounding him - because he can't.

"I would not have been able to understand the lawsuit or distinguish it from the many other legal documents that I received," he said in a document.

The document denies any accountability in the million-dollar lawsuit filed against him that he is now disputing.

The documents, obtained by The Blast, are referring to the $10.5 million lawsuit which was filed by six women. They accused the rapper of attempting to stop the 2018 New York City screening of the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly with a mass shooting threat.

The women were awarded the money in August 2023. However, the disgraced singer is now claiming he would have disputed the case if he'd known about it.

The I Believe I Can Fly singer claimed he learned about the lawsuit through a friend, and had no recollection of ever receiving it.

"I rely on my lawyers to explain things to me because I cannot read or understand words beyond that of a grade-schooler," he said.
