The RSPCA have launched an investigation after three rabbits were abandoned outside one of their centres. They were left in a guinea pig cage outside the charity's Block Fen Animal Centre in Wimblington.

The rabbits were found on the morning of April 9, near the gates of the centre. They are now being cared for by staff at the centre.

All three are young adults. They have been renamed Melanie, Miffy, and Speedy.

The RSPCA is investigating the incident. A charity spokesperson said they are "keen to trace the driver of an unknown dark coloured vehicle – possibly a van which was caught on CCTV near to the centre on the evening before the abandonment was discovered and who could hold vital information to the investigation."

RSPCA animal rescue officer John Woods, who is investigating, said: "We are now appealing for information and ask that if anyone saw anything in the area at the time to contact our appeals line on 033 123 8018 quoting incident number 01246996. Or if anyone knows who might have owned these rabbits.

"We'd particularly like to hear from the driver of the vehicle who was in the area the night before and they may hold vital information."
