Race Across the World’s Eugenie and Isabel reveal special promise they made
Race Across the World's Eugenie and Isabel will go backpacking every year
Race Across the World's Eugenie and Isabel have made a heartwarming promise to each other after completing the BBC show.
While sometimes their fiery clashes that have been playing out on our screens on Race Across the World, the mother and daughter pairing have made a vow to each other that they will keep every year now they have completed filming.
Inspired by their belly-laughing experiences on the race, the two of them plan to go backpacking every year - bringing back the beautiful memories they created.
Eugenie told Yahoo: "I've managed to get Isabel to agree for us to go on almost like a backpacking each year, even if it's for a few days. I've managed to get Isabel to agree to that until we'll continue maybe doing that year after year, until the situation is that we can't."
However, this year is an exception to their promise because Isabel has to put her focus on her masters degree. While they won't go backpacking this year, they have already been on holiday since the race.
"We have gone on mini holidays, a city break to Luxembourg together since the race," she added. "So definitely we will still be holidaying together."
While Eugenie and Isabel may have disagreed at times along the way, they have learned a lot about each other on the journey and it's united them. "It's inevitable that Race Across the World brought us closer together," Eugenie said.
"We've got more of an understanding of each other's personalities and boundaries. I learned quite a bit about Isabel and I'm sure she learned quite a bit about me as well as people."
Eugenie said they had some "belly laughs" over carrying the incredibly heavy rucksacks. She added: "What is so beautiful is that we've got memories that no one else has, it's just between the two of us. And even though we put loads of photographs or we talk to people about it, they still won't have that full understanding of it. It will just be between myself and Isabel. We'll actually know you know that. How it really was... Sometimes I even pinch myself and think 'did we actually really do that?'"
Speaking openly, Isabel praised her mum for showing her vulnerable side while competing in the race. "Mum has more of a vulnerable side," she said. "Growing up I've seen more of the tough kind of love approach, she wouldn't necessarily express that emotional side to me as much." And Isabel admired her mum's resilience too. "One of the biggest things I learned about mum was just how she was quite resilient," she said. "Through a lot of the hard times."
Eugenie spoke from the heart as she said she had learned that her daughter needed her reassurance from her, despite coming across as very self-assured. She said: "Isabel needs that reassurance from me. That's what helps her. So I realise that is something that I have to do and I have to do more of as well."
The mother and daughter have proved themselves to be strong contenders in the race. They come first in the first two legs. Having got off to a great start, in the week five the pair fell behind and they shocked audiences at home when they came last. No doubt they will have hatched a plan in a bid to catch up in the next leg which will play out on our screens next week.
Race Across the World continues on BBC One on Wednesday at 9pm.
