A SENTENCING date has been set for a racing driver who was previously found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Peter Jones, 21, was previously found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Didcot.

The banger racer was 19 years old at the time and had denied the offence, stating what had happened between the pair was consensual.

He recently stood a second trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with rape which allegedly took place on December 3, 2021.

It is alleged that Jones had raped the girl in a field after the pair had exchanged naked photographs on Snapchat.

The girl told a jury that Jones had ‘never asked’ her for sexual activity and allegedly he forced her to.

However, Jones, of Furlong Close, Oxford, has denied the offence – stating what had happened was consensual.

A jury was unable to reach a verdict this week and they were dismissed. The Crown Prosecution Service decided on Thursday (July 4) that they would officially be offering no evidence on the rape count.

Judge Maria Lamb entered a not guilty verdict for that count.

Jones is now due to return back to the same court on August 23 to be sentenced for the sexual assault count.

The case has been adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Jones.
