Rally Held in Sydney to Support Protesters in Iran

Demonstrators gathered at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Saturday, October 22, as rallies in support of protesters in Iran were held in major cities across the world.

Footage by Twitter user @meleisabrina shows a large crowd carrying placards, banners and flags. Demonstrators can be heard chanting, “We want justice for Iran.”

According to human rights organisations, scores of protesters in Iran have been killed by the country’s security forces since protests erupted following the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in September.

In an October 13 report, Amnesty International said it had confirmed the identities of “at least 144 men, women and children killed by Iran’s security forces between 19 September and 3 October.” On October 20, Iran Human Rights, a Norway-based human-rights monitoring group, estimated that 215 people had been killed.

At least 23 children were among the dead, according to Amnesty International and the United Nations Human Rights Office. Credit: @meleisabrina via Storyful
