Youssef’s first HBO comedy special, “Ramy Youssef: Feelings,” earned him a Critics’ Choice Award nomination and a Writers Guild Award in 2020. Like the first special, “More Feelings” is produced by A24. Youssef’s own production outfit Cairo Cowboy is also behind “More Feelings,” making Youssef writer, performer and executive producer. Tyson Binder also executive produces.
Youssef is known for creating, producing, directing and starring in his critically acclaimed Hulu comedy series “Ramy.” Drawing from his own experiences, the series explores the life of a first generation Egyptian-American and Muslim man navigating opposing cultures in his politically-divided New Jersey town. In addition to several other nominations and wins across awards bodies for “Ramy,” Youssef won a Golden Globe in 2020 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Additionally, Youssef is the co-creator and executive producer of the Netflix series “Mo,” which follows a Palestinian refugee in Houston, Texas.
Youssef was also recognized this past year for directing an episode of the Emmy-sweeping series “The Bear,” the only person besides Storer and co-showrunner Joanna Calo to do so. He helmed the episode “Honeydew,” which depicts pastry chef’s Marcus’ culinary explorations in Copenhagen. He was nominated for a DGA award for the episode.
Youssef can currently be seen co-starring in Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” which recently earned 11 Oscar nominations.
