Range Rover and Land Rover drivers can 'avoid' £38,000 bill by 'picking up phone'

Car insurance prices should be "even more competitive" as drivers face costs as high as £38,000, motoring experts have warned. Range Rover and Land Rover drivers have been struggling to get fair car insurance policies in recent months amid the Cost of Living crisis.

Owners of the vehicles have been forced to fork out huge sums as they run into difficulties getting cover for their cars and decent premiums. Car insurance companies have been hesitant to offer cover, it has been reported by motoring groups like Autocar.

Indeed, those that are willing to insure have charged some as high as £38k, according to reports. Gerry Bucke, general manager of Adrian Flux, said the recent car insurance quotes made for "grim reading" for Range Rover owners as car insurance companies prove to be hesitant.

One London-based car owner, looking to insure his inbound Range Rover, found his current insurer was unwilling to insure it, and another quoted him £6,000. A spokesperson for one London-based broker mentioned an insurance quote of £38,000 for a Range Rover worth £50,000, TMD Insurance and Autocar report from February.

In a warning to Range Rover drivers in the UK, as well as those behind the wheel of a Land Rover, Mr Bucke warned: "But the picture should start to improve, especially as the number of thefts hopefully begin to decrease. We can still quote for nearly all situations as a result of being a broker and having access to a wide range of insurers."

The motoring expert went on, warning road users nationwide: "To make our rates even more competitive we are asking for additional security to be fitted on top of whatever the owner of the vehicle already has to decrease the risk of it being stolen.”

Mr Bucke concluded, saying: "Comparison websites will just provide a 'computer says no' response which is far from helpful. So for any Range Rover driver who is stuck in what feels like an uninsurable position, or anyone else who is struggling to find affordable cover given the market, there's no better time to pick up the phone and speak to a specialist broker.”
