Rangers captain James Tavernier wants to finish his career at Ibrox - but the club could accept an Al-Ettifaq bid of £4million this summer.

That is the view of his former teammate Cammy Bell with former boss Steven Gerrard weighing up a summer move to raid his former club of Tavernier and Connor Goldson. The Liverpool legend has failed to impress in the Ettifaq dugout this season with his side stuck in seventh spot in the cash-rich Saudi Pro League despite the starting line-up featuring Gini Wijnaldum, Demarai Gray, Jack Hendry and Moussa Dembele.

Former Ibrox and Aston Villa boss Gerrard looks to be focussing on bolstering his backline in the next window and is set to turn to Rangers. But Tavernier's pal Bell - who played alongside the skipper during the 2015 season before leaving Ibrox a year later - has revealed that he knows personally that the defender had planned to see out his career with the Light Blues.

However, he admits that should Rangers accept a mega-money offer from the Middle East the right-back could change his thinking. Asked for an insight on his friend thinking while on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, the retired goalkeeper said: "James Tavernier is set here in Glasgow.

"He is happy at Rangers - I know that. He is very happy at Rangers. I think he has seen his career finishing at Rangers - certainly at one point. Whether he still does I am unsure, but these offers do come in. It will be up to the club rather than the player.

"At the end of the day he has two years left, and they will have to offer enough that Rangers see it as a good deal for them. Yes, he is 32 and they are not going to get £10million for him.

"I would think a value of £3-£4million is what they would mark him at. It is going to be up to Rangers - and then if they accept you would have to say the money on offer over there could be life-changing. It might be an offer that he considers and wants to go and see a different part of the world, but I know he is happy at Rangers."

Bell warned Philippe Clement he may find it impossible to replace the skipper should he reunite with Gerrard in the Pro League, adding: "My big thing is that if you are wanting to move James Tavernier you have to have a replacement. You have to have somebody that is better than James Tavernier coming into the club.

"That is not easy. His numbers are incredible going forward and yes, there are questions defensively but that replacement is not an easy one to find for the manager."
