Raphael Varane in 'Lionel Messi transfer talks' after Manchester United United exit

Inter Miami are 'in talks' to sign Raphael Varane following his summer exit from Manchester United.

Varane, 31, confirmed last month that he will leave the Red Devils upon the expiry of his contract this summer after three years at the club. The Frenchman waved an emotional goodbye to the United fans after the 3-2 win over Newcastle and made his final appearance in the FA Cup final success against Manchester City. He joined the club from Real Madrid in 2021 and played 95 times in total, winning two trophies.

United decided to part ways with Varane at the end of his current deal and he could now be heading to Major League Soccer to link up with David Beckham and Lionel Messi. Reports have emerged that Inter Miami are interested in a move for Varane and opened negotiations to secure a deal this summer.

Inter Miami were formed six years ago and won their first major trophy in the form of the expanded 2023 Leagues Cup, with ex-Barcelona trio Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba key to their success. Varane would become the latest big name to join the Miami revolution as they look to build on their strong season so far.

Varane, who spent 10 years at Real Madrid before his move to United, penned a message to the Red Devils supporters after his exit was announced. "To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it's been an amazing few years playing for this special club and wearing that shirt," Varane said in a post on social media.

"The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man United player it was insane, the atmosphere was amazing. I fell in love with the club and the fans. You have to play for Man United to understand what that represents.

"Despite the fact we had a difficult season, I'm very positive for the future. The new owners are coming with a clear plan and a great strategy. I'll see you at Old Trafford to say goodbye for the last home game of the season. It's going to be a very emotional day for me, for sure."
