Caolan Boyd-Munce says making his debut for Northern Ireland against Spain is his "greatest achievement" to date, and joked that he was "ready to come off" providing an assist for Dan Ballard's goal.

Northern Ireland fell to a 5-1 defeat in Majorca after taking a shock early lead against the hosts. Despite the result, it was a proud night for St Mirren star Boyd-Munce who crossed for Ballard's clinical header just 66 seconds into the game.

The 24-year-old has progressed through the ranks for his country, and finally got the nod from Michael O'Neill against Spain at the Son Moix Stadium., and then earned his second cap in the follow-up win against Andorra in Murcia.

Reflecting on his Spanish debut, Boyd-Munce told St Mirren's social channels: "That is my biggest achievement yet. I have been there since I was 11 or 12, started really young. Being from Belfast, and to get that chance to play for Northern Ireland.

"And to provide an assist and going 1-0 up against one of the world's best teams, and probably the favourites for the Euros, was some feeling."

He joked: "I was waiting to get taken off after that. That was me done. But it was some feeling!

"The Northern Ireland fans are brilliant and they always travel in their numbers. They are always the loudest in the stadium, so when the goal went in, the roar inside that stadium will live with me.

"It gives me a taste of things and makes me hungry for more."

Boyd-Munce believes last month's international double-header has set him up nicely for pre-season with St Mirren. The Scottish Premiership side are currently in Spain for a summer camp ahead of their Europa Conference League opener in July.

"It (camp) has been tough. I have had a lot less time off that the other boys which has been good. I am still quite fit, so it hasn't taken me a long to get used to it," he said.

"But it is a fit team as you can see from the scores and the standards are high. We have to maintain that."
