Bethany Platt has only been back in Weatherfield a few short months, but the character is set to face her biggest shock to date in new Coronation Street scenes. The character made her sudden arrival back in Weatherfield just before the arrival of a new year.

She quickly rekindled her former romance with Daniel Osbourne which in turn ruffled feathers between them and his ex-fiancée Daisy Midgley. After writing an article about her affair with Ryan Connor following the shocking acid attack that took place in the Rovers last year, Bethany ended up exposing Daisy and Jenny Connor's theft of Carla Connor's money that was originally stolen by serial killer Stephen Reid.

She's since been supporting Daniel as he became a suspect in the case of Lauren Bolton's disappearance. However, she's set to be thrust into what has since become a murder probe herself thanks to a shock return in the ITV soap.

Bethany's evil abuser Nathan Curtis is set to be seen lurking in Weatherfield again, more than six years after he was last seen in person and six since he appeared in a vision experienced by Bethany.

It’s Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, who first spots him at the reconstruction of Lauren’s last known movements and her mind is thrown into overdrive. Having initially thought Nathan, being reprised by Chris Harper, was behind bars, she discovers he was released from prison some time ago and is working on a building site nearby.

Knowing his history, and his appetite for young girls, Bethany soon hits on the idea that Nathan could be behind Lauren’s suspected murder. As Bethany throws all her eggs into Nathan’s basket she’s forced to confront her abuser once more as she determines to bring Lauren’s attacker to justice.

But has she got the right man? With Roy behind bars awaiting trial for murder and Nathan keen to make out he’s a changed character since his time in prison, is the real predator still at large? Or has Nathan, the master manipulator, returned to his old ways?

Lucy first appeared in Corrie in 2015 and it appears she was always going to end up on the stage or small screen. From the age of two, she studied singing, dancing and drama at the Barbara Jackson Theatre Arts Centre. It is reported that at the age of eight, she had private drama classes, and also took the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exams.

Before landing her role in Corrie, Lucy had several part-time jobs, including working at Subway, Next, New Look, and in the Merrie England bar on the Blackpool North Pier. At the same time, she appeared as a dancer in the pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Blackpool Grand Theatre.

It was in Corrie that she made her screen acting debut. A returning character, Lucy took over the role of Bethany after she had been played by child actors Mia Cookson (2000) and twins Amy and Emily Walton (2000–2007) beforehand. She was 19 when she was cast to play the 14-year-old Bethany and it was rumoured she was offered the role when Katie Redford, the actress who was originally chosen for the part had lied about her age.

During her time in the role, Lucy took on many big storylines as Bethany which resulted in her winning the Best Actress award at the 2017 Inside Soap Awards, the Outstanding Serial Drama Performance at the 2018 National Television Awards, and the Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance at the 2018 British Soap Awards.

Lucy then later left Corrie at the end of her contract in 2020 to pursue other projects. Speaking to us recently about her exit, the 28-year-old said: "As soon as I left, I was really sad. It was a huge decision for me to leave anyway. There was no particular thing where I was like, 'I'm going to leave!' It was more just because I'd had quite big storylines and it was like, 'What direction could Bethany possibly go in now' anyway. It felt like the right time to go off and do new things."

Away from her role, Lucy is loved up with her boyfriend Ryan Ledson, a footballer who plays as a midfielder for Preston North End. The pair went public with their relationship in June 2021, almost a year after she was reported to have split from former boyfriend of three years Tom Leech.

Love blossomed for the couple during lockdown after they met on celebrity dating app Raya. They then announced in September 2022 that she was pregnant with her and Ryan's first child and was already five months pregnant.

Their happy news comes after Lucy suffered a tragic miscarriage back in March. The pair had gone for a private scan when Lucy was seven weeks for some early reassurance after the news came as a “massive shock and surprise”, but after being referred to hospital they were dealt the devastating blow that Lucy had miscarried.

Lucy bravely opened up about suffering a miscarriage during a recent episode of ITVBe reality series Drama Queen which Lucy stars in with several other soap stars as they share a glimpse into their life behind the cameras. A teary-eyed Lucy recounted her first pregnancy in front of the cameras and said: "In the first year that me and Ryan were together I fell pregnant for the first time."

She said that they were "really excited," before adding: "And we booked a scan and we ... I feel like I'm gonna get upset." She took a moment to compose herself before she continued: "We went for the first scan and I didn't expect that anything would be wrong and [the nurse] told us that there was no heartbeat. That the baby had died."

"It was a traumatising, horrendous time,” she told OK!. !We went for a scan and they couldn’t see anything, so then we went to the hospital and they thought they could see something, so it was very up and down." She explained how she was experiencing classic pregnancy symptoms which were "getting worse". Lucy, who then underwent surgery, said: "There were no signs I had had a miscarriage, so that made it more of a shock."

In February 2023, Lucy announced the arrival of her first child with Ryan, a son they named Sonny Jude. Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazine, Lucy shared how she had an 'assisted birth'. In week 38 of her pregnancy, scans showed that Sonny’s growth had started to slow down and he had reduced movement, so Lucy’s doctors advised she should be induced. On January 29, she arrived at the hospital at 9am for her induction.

By 4pm, Lucy, 28, had started pushing, which went on for an hour and a half, but, between contractions, her baby's head was going back in and she was given three options – ventouse (vacuum cup), forceps or Caesarean. Due to Sonny’s position having to be be manipulated for a C-section, Lucy didn’t want him put under any unnecessary stress and knew she didn’t want a forceps delivery, so she opted for the ventouse. Having the ventouse is classed as an assisted birth, so we headed into surgery around 6pm, and he was born at 6.34pm, weighing 7lb 4oz."
