Rebecca Adlington broke down in tears as she opened up on her stillbirth.

The 35-year-old lost her daughter, Harper, after she suffered a miscarriage in October. Rebecca lost another child at 12 weeks in 2022.

The Olympic swimmer was emotional as she spoke about the experience on the latest episode of Giovanna Fletcher's podcast. She said: "To have to give birth. I thought that was so cruel. It was a horrible three days. I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare. It was just horrid."

Rebecca was supported by her husband Andy Parsons as she spoke about how they processed the tragic news. She said: "We did hold her. We had quite a lot of time with her because it just felt right. They put a little hat on her and a little blanket.

"It was just like she was asleep. It was the most painful, horrible thing to ever happen but it was done in a really sensitive, beautiful way, which I know some people are not lucky enough for, so I'm grateful for that support that was there in the worst of times.

"I said to Andy at the time because we get this suite where it's a double bed. I said it shows how much this happens because this exists. There is somebody this is happening to absolutely everywhere."

Rebecca and Andy, who hails from Liverpool, share son, Albie. Rebecca is also the proud mum of Summer, from her previous marriage to Harry Needs. Rebecca was emotional as she explained how she shared the tragic news with her children.

She added: "When I returned home, I felt lost. How do I tell Summer? I found that really difficult. She was heartbroken. It was devastating for her and Albie goes: "Mummy, is there no baby in my stomach now?"

Giovanna shared a clip from the episode on her Instagram as she said: "This week on @happymumhappybaby I chat with @beckadlington about her experiences in motherhood. We talk about welcoming her daughter Summer, about the realities of becoming a single mum, expanding her family after meeting her partner Andy, and then her two losses.

"We talk about the arrival of baby Harper, who Becky had to give birth to at 20 weeks. Becky shares what she’s been through physically, mentally and emotionally during and since this heartache.

"These conversations are always heart-breaking but that doesn’t mean we should stop having them. It’s so important to acknowledge the grief surrounding baby loss, because hearing Becky’s words makes it clear that parents will never just forget about what’s happened. Their hearts have been shattered.

"Becky talks about the comfort and support she’s had from the charity @petalscharity, and I urge you to reach out to them if you’ve been through a loss yourself. I’m so grateful to Becky for having this conversation and sharing Harper with us. If you have experienced this kind of loss, or know someone who has, we hope you find some comfort in this discussion."
