The winners of next season's Premier Sports Cup will secure a record-breaking jackpot as SPFL chiefs revealed a bumper increase in prize money and TV income for the League Cup.

A prize pot of over £3.5million will be shared between clubs with the winner taking home a highest ever £400,000 - up from the £380,000 that Rangers landed for seeing off Hearts in February. The runners-up will bank £200,000 - up £15,000 on last season - while semi final losers also gain to earn £40,000 extra on last year with a cheque for £150,000. And fees paid out for all live matches in the competition - £18,000 or group games and £30,000 for ties thereafter.

All 40 clubs involved in the group stage will be guaranteed a minimum pay out of £30,000 from the prize pot which has increased a total of £200,000 on last season. Lowland League winners East Kilbride and Highland League winners Buckie Thistle will join the 38 SPFL clubs in the draw.

Neil Doncaster, chief executive of the SPFL, said: “We’re delighted to announce record prize money for our flagship cup competition next season. Premier Sports have been fantastic supporters of the League Cup and of our national game. That investment has enabled us to further increase the funds we can make available to clubs competing in our premier cup competition.

“We’re all looking forward to the return of the Premier Sports Cup, with the draw for the first-round group stage taking place at 1pm on Wednesday 29 May, live on Premier Sports. Seeding pots for the draw will be confirmed early next week.”
