Red Arrows Fly Again After Pilot's Death

The Red Arrows have returned to the sky for their first public display since the death of one of their pilots.

They performed at Chatsworth Country Fair on Friday afternoon, less than two weeks after Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging was killed.

The 33-year-old died when his aircraft came down near Bournemouth airport on August 20 while taking part in a display.

Flt Lt Egging steered his plane away from homes in a nearby village before he crashed.

A 20 minute performance took place on Friday, however a second flight which was due to take place on Sunday will not go ahead.

Today's event is being hosted on the estate of the Duke of Devonshire.

He said the performance will be watched with mixed emotions: "There will be thousands of people enjoying the show but it will be tinged with sadness as people remember Flight Lieutenant Egging.

"I think it will give everybody a greater appreciation of the expertise needed for a display like this and of the enormous risks taken on our behalf by the armed forces."

The Hawk T1 jets used by the Red Arrows have been cleared to fly again after they were grounded during the investigation into the crash.
