Former Isle of Wight ferry Red Jet 4 is on its way to South Korea to carry customers between some of the country's most popular tourist destinations.

At the end of last month, the former Red Funnel vessel was lifted out of the water in Southampton and hoisted onto the AAL Kobe cargo ship.

Red Jet 4 was built by North West Bay Ships in Tasmania in 2003 and served the Cowes to Southampton route for two decades before its sale to South Korean ferry firm Nam Hae Express Co.

Nam Hae Express Co operates four car ferries and six high-speed catamarans, serving popular tourist destinations, including Mokpo and Jeju Island.

Red Jet 4, which can carry 271 passengers, is the latest vessel to join its fleet.

The loading process was handled by the team at logistics company Peters & May, ensuring the vessel was securely placed on the AAL Kobe before transit.

Robert Blades of Peters & May said: “We are delighted to have been entrusted with the transportation of Red Jet 4.

“This project showcases our ability to manage and execute intricate logistics operations with the highest level of professionalism.”

Previously, Red Funnel said the sale was part of a ‘strategic decision’ to focus on the upkeep and reliability of Red Jet 6 and 7.

CEO Fran Collins said the firm was very proud of Red Jet 4’s service across the Solent and wished Nam Hae Express the best in giving the vessel a new home.
