The Red King launches on Alibi on Wednesday night and anyone who tunes in will be greeted by the sight of a few well known faces as Geordie star Jill Halfpenny shares a screen with a member of Bridgerton royalty and stars of TV's Vigil and Van der Valk.

Filmed last year, The Red King sees disgruntled cop Grace Narayan, sent to the tiny fictional island of St. Jory as she tries to get to the bottom of the unsolved case of missing teenager Cai, having to navigate the strange and unwelcoming locals and their connection to a cult as she searches for answers.

A teaser for the series adds: "The Red King is a character-driven mystery-thriller, that combines the powerful story of a knotty police investigation with chilling, atmospheric folk-horror through the island’s eerie past devotion to a pagan God called the Red King and the cult of the True Way."
