Reigate and Banstead Local Elections 2024: Every candidate including in Redhill and Horley
The Conservatives will be hoping to regain full control of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council this week although, defending eight of its 22 seats, it could also lose its grip on power. The party lost overall control of the local authority this year but remains the largest group going into the May 2 polls.
The borough votes in thirds, with appropriately enough, one third of all seats up for grabs each year, with the fourth year off. In Reigate and Banstead that means 15 seats will be decided, with an additional councillor elected in Tattenham Corner and Preston to fill a vacancy.
In total there are 45 seats on the council meaning a party needs 23 seats to command a majority. The Green Party are the largest opposition group with 11 members. There are a further five councillors representing their Residents Association and three Liberal Democrats, two independents, and one Labour Party member.
Votes will be counted on Friday May 5, the day after the election, with results expected to be announced at about 6pm.
Reigate and Banstead
There are 15 wards with one person elected in each. The exception is in Tattenham Corner and Preston where, to fill the vacancy, two councillors will be elected.
