Released Bristol Bears duo sign deals with Gloucester Rugby and Hartpury

Former Bristol Bears frontrow twins Aristot Benz-Salomon and Jonny Benz-Salomon have signed a dual contract deal with Gloucester Rugby and Championship side Hartpury ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The 23-year-olds were born in Spain but grew up in England from the age of 10, coming through the youth ranks at Harlequins before moving to study and play rugby at Hartpury University before then breaking into the senior Championship side who they remained dual registered with after signing for Bristol Bears in the summer of 2022.

Tighthead Jono made 14 appearances for Bristol over his two seasons at the club while loosehead Aristot Benz-Salomon, known as Toti, made three before the pair were released this summer, but not before writing their names in the clubs' history books.

In September 2022, the brothers became the third set of twins to take the field together for Bristol - and the first in more than a century - joining Percy and Reg Hussey (1895-01) Harry and William Wookey (1910-14) in doing so. But with international stars like Kyle Sinckler and Ellis Genge ahead of them at the Bears and the loss of the A-League, the Benz-Salomon brothers have struggled for competitive game time at the Premiership side with their outings predominately coming in the Premiership Rugby Cup. Still, at just 23 their future in the game remains unwritten with props generally regarded to peak towards the age of 30.
