This is all that remains of Nottingham restaurant that was shut because of spiralling costs

This is all that remains of a former Nottingham restaurant after its recent demolition. Frankie & Benny's used to be located at the site opposite Showcase Cinema, off Redfield Way.

The Italian/American chain restaurant closed at the end of May last year as part of measures to shut 35 sites by owners, The Restaurant Group, due to spiralling costs and diners cutting back on their spending. The vacant restaurant was put on the market.

According to property company Savills the restaurant was up for an annual rent of £40,000. It has since been sold. There is no hint of what could be happening in the future. No planning application for any new build has been submitted to Nottingham City Council at this stage.

Tex-Mex restaurant Chiquito, also part of the same group, closed down at the same time last year. The windows are now boarded up and it remains 'to let'. It is available as a sublease agreement until May 2030 with a guide rent of £50,000 per year.

The site is still home to Nando's and US burger chain Five Guys. Nottinghamshire's last remaining Frankie & Benny's is based at Giltbrook Retail Park. Sites in the city centre, Victoria Retail Park at Netherfield, and Sutton-in-Ashfield have all gone. Work to transform the former Netherfield restaurant is underway.

In March a planning application was submitted by The Crown Estate, which owns the retail park, to slightly change the use of the former Frankie & Benny's restaurant in preparation for a new occupant.
