Renee Zellweger is set to return as the beloved Bridget Jones in the fourth instalment of the romantic comedy.

The star will join Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson, who will return as the love interest Daniel Cleaver and Doctor Rawlings - Bridget's despairing obstetrician.

The rom-com titled 'Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy' will see the 12 Years A Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor and One Day actor Leo Woodall join the cast of the sequel, set for release on Valentine’s Day 2025.

British author Helen Fielding - famed for penning the much-loved novels - revealed she decided to write Bridget’s love interest Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, out of the third book in the popular series.

In the book also titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, Mark Darcy heartbreakingly died, leaving Bridget a widow in her 50s and mother to two kids.

However, it's unclear what plot the film will take, reports Greenock Telegraph.

Firth returned to his role as Mark in the third film in the franchise titled Bridget Jones's Baby - which saw him and billionaire US love guru Jack Qwant, played by Patrick Dempsey, go head to head for the attention of Bridget after she reveals she's expecting a baby.

The 2016 sequel first hit screens 12 years after US actress Zellweger adopted an impressive English accent to portray the hapless singleton in the second instalment titled Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason.

The original adaptation titled Bridget Jones’s Diary, starring Zellweger as a 30-something wine-loving singleton was released in 2001 to wide acclaim.

Zellweger scored her second Academy Award in 2020 for her leading role as famed singer and actress Judy Garland.
