An iconic Renfrewshire church is set to go to auction with an “oven ready” development opportunity.

Shepherd Chartered Surveyors’ latest property auction of around 30 commercial properties will feature the former West Parish Church in Kilbarchan for a whopping £675,000.

The B-listed Church Street building comes with drawings and full planning permission to convert it into 17 flats.

The former church, built in the early 1900s, is of sandstone construction and surmounted by a pitched slated roof.

Currently, the premises comes as it was previously used with a number of meeting rooms and offices.

Stairs which can be found on both the south and north sides of the building grant access to two galleries.

Outside, a car park is on offer with vehicle access gained directly from Church Street.

Adam Honeyman, partner at Shepherd Chartered Surveyors in Glasgow, told the Paisley Daily Express planning permission for the church conversion was granted in October 2021.

He said: “Kilbarchan Church presents a highly attractive opportunity for developers to acquire an ‘oven ready’ site within central Renfrewshire close to the affluent towns of Howwood and Bridge of Weir.

“The current landlord has prepared a thorough technical pack, which can be provided to developers with full plans and building warrants in place, meaning development can begin as soon as the hammer falls.

“Planning permission currently allows for 17 flats, which encompass the original features of the property, whilst ensuring all modern amenities are provided for.”

The auction is scheduled to take place om April 18 with bids expected from in-person and online buyers.

Also going under the hammer is a piece of land in Howwood.

The near two-acre site is of irregular shape and runs adjacent to the
A737.

With the land currently composing mostly of trees and vegetation, the lot has been listed with an initial guide price of £8,000, with VAT and fees not
included.

Steve Barnett, managing partner at Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, said: “Auctions offer the ability to sell all types of commercial property through our expansive network while providing transparency and simplicity of the process.

“Our offering goes further as we can offer local market advice from our in-house team of chartered surveyors throughout our national network of local offices.”

The online auction involves the posting of various lots online for which the auctioneer invites pre-authorised buyers to post bids via a live broadcast.

All properties are open to remote bidding online, on the phone and by proxy.
