A reopening date has been revealed for a Swindon supermarket that is currently undergoing a revamp.

The Aldi on Drove Road has been closed to customers since June 16 as improvements are being made to the layout of the building.

Changes include increased chiller space with new fridge doors to reduce energy consumption, as well as additional room for Specialbuys, and the bakery and health and beauty sections being redesigned with a modernised look.

A spokesperson for the retail chain said that the upgrades will make for an all-round better shopping experience and a more sustainable store, and create additional jobs on top of the existing 38 employees who work there.

The Aldi store on Drove Road will re-open to customers on Thursday, July 4.

During re-opening week, the store will be offering a range of school uniform essentials, including cardigans and sweatshirts for £1.50 each, trousers, cargo shorts and pleated skirts for £1.75 each, and a two-pack of polo shirts for £1.75.

Store manager Dale Goodright said: “The store is looking fantastic, and we are really looking forward to welcoming back some familiar faces as well as new customers and supplying our local community with the everyday amazing products we have available.”

Aldi has been on a rapid expansion drive in recent years and has seen its popularity soar.

The retailer currently has more than 1,020 stores and is continuing towards a long-term target of more than 1,500 stores across the UK.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high quality food accessible to all, but we can’t do that while there are still some towns and areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have capacity for additional stores.

"We recognise there is huge demand in certain regions for more stores, which is why we decided to get the public’s input on our latest list of priority locations.

Aldi is to create 5,500 new jobs this year as the supermarket chain continues its expansion across the UK.

The UK’s fourth largest supermarket group said it is hiring for roles including store assistants, manager and cleaners across new shops.

Aldi UK is also recruiting across its 11 regional distribution centres and for head office positions.
