Residents in Reno Ring in the New Year Despite Winter Storm

Residents in Reno, Nevada, welcomed the new year with a firework display despite authorities reporting a record-setting winter storm on December 31.

Footage by Scott Rahbeck shows fireworks lighting up Reno’s downtown area.

Describing it as “an impressive storm event”, the National Weather Service (NWS) said Reno Airport had “easily set” a new daily precipitation record, with 2.26" (5.74cm) recorded.

The NWS said 2023 would be off to a chilly start, with multiple storm systems predicted throughout the first week. Credit: Scott Rahbeck via Storyful
