Jadon Sancho will feel vindicated by the decision to stand his ground in his fallout with Erik ten Hag, which ultimately led to his loan return to Borussia Dortmund.

He has been instrumental in guiding the Germans to their first Champions League final since 2013, which coincidentally was also played at Wembley. Sancho played at the stadium twice for Manchester United last season, in both the FA Cup final and League Cup final defeats.

His last appearance there for England was way back in November 2020, and reports suggest that, despite his recent resurgence, the winger will not be selected for Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad this summer.

United are set to benefit from Sancho’s success in Germany, with the i claiming that the club will receive £3m for his progression to the Champions League final and that they could earn more if he gets his hands on the trophy.

Some fans may be hoping that the 24-year-old stays at Old Trafford next season, despite his drab two-and-a-half seasons since his 2021 arrival from Dortmund, which cost £73m. However, Rio Ferdinand believes that will only happen if the current manager is sacked.

He told TNT Sports: “I think the only way he goes back to Manchester United is if Erik ten Hag isn’t there. I don’t think they can undermine the manager and let a player not apologise and then bring him back.

“I don’t think they’ll undermine the manager in that way. I think Ten Hag needs to be gone and out of the building for Jadon Sancho to come back. If he plays that way again tonight he really puts pressure on United and the people behind the scenes.”

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl says his club will consider negotiating a deal with United for Sancho in the summer. This is a change in tone from initial hesitancy over the attacker, who has three goals and two assists in 18 loan matches.

It seems Sancho is certainly enjoying himself back in yellow, being seen blasting out ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele from a speaker in the changing rooms after Dortmund’s 2-0 semi-final aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The player later took to Instagram to write: "Champions League Final! Wow, wow, wow, unbelievable Borussia Dortmund! "WEMBLEY HERE WE COME!"

He then replied with “LOL FACTS!” to an Instagram post depicting him over lyrics from rapper Drake, which say: "To the rest of you, the non-believers, the under-achievers, the tweet and deleters... You guys make me sick to my stomach."
