The restaurants in Scotland named among best in UK at top national awards
A number of Scottish restaurants have been named among the best in the UK at the 2024 National Restaurant Awards.
On Monday evening, the winners of the prestigious awards were revealed. Dating back to 2007, the yearly ceremony celebrates the top 100 eateries the nation has to offer as decided by a panel of chefs, restaurateurs, and food writers.
The highest placing Scottish restaurant on this year's list is The Glenturret Lalique in Crieff, coming in at number 11. The fine dining restaurant, situated at The Glenturret Distillery in the heart of Perthshire, also took home the Best Restaurant in Scotland prize.
The two Michelin-starred eatery features only seven tables, offering a luxury and intimate experience for guests. Highlights of its dinner-only menu include juniper smoked roe deer, 'bisque-it', and BBQ Orkney scallop with shiitake XO.
Elsewhere, Lyla on Edinburgh's Royal Terrace appears at number 28 on the National Restaurant Awards' top 100. The staff at the cosy restaurant, which specialises in line caught fish and sustainable shellfish sourced from the Scottish Isles, also received The Service Award.
Also appearing in the top 100 are Inver along the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll and The Little Chartroom in Edinburgh, at numbers 42 and 45 respectively. The former offers a contemporary take on traditional and forgotten Scottish dishes in a scenic environment, while the latter is an understated spot that specialises in high-end dishes, cocktails, and wine.
The final Scottish restaurant to be recognised at the 2024 National Restaurant Awards is The Palmerston in Edinburgh, appearing at number 94. Situated in a former bank, it is known for its old-fashioned decor and daily-changing menu.
Topping the National Restaurant Awards' overall list is The Ledbury in London, 12 years after it last claimed the title. The Notting Hill restaurant, which reopened in 2022 after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, was previously awarded three Michelin stars in the 2024 Michelin guide.
