THE opening date of the new Home Bargains coming to Colchester has been revealed.

The discount retailer is set to launch what will be its biggest site in the city later this year.

It will be the second in Colchester, adding to the existing one at the Turner Rise Retail Park.

Bosses previously revealed the new store, set to open at the former B&Q site in Lightship Way, would be in August.

However, signs outside the soon-to-be-transformed site reveal the opening date to be Saturday, August 24.

The new Home Bargains store will be more than 34,000 sq ft and create up to 100 jobs.

It will also include a bakery, instore café and a large garden centre.

The new store will fill a vacant space at the former B&Q site, which has been empty since the DIY retailer relocated to Stane Park in 2021.

Work on the Local Fulfillment Centre for Argos at the northern end of the building began last year and has since been completed.

As well as this, there was space for a retail unit as well as a 15,000 sq ft discount gym.

It is currently unknown which brands will occupy the final additional unit.
