A British woman has told of her anguish after finding ‘revenge porn’ pictures of her on a website – which had pictures of women ‘from every city in the UK’.

Mikala Monsoon waived her right to anonymity as a victim of crime to discuss the site.

The images were hosted in Mega.nz, a file-sharing website where users can share images, videos and other files.

Police Scotland are now investigating the site, Metro reported.

Mega.nz said that it did not tolerate any illegal activity, and has a policy of deleting such material.

Monsoon, 23, said that the images had been uploaded when she was 17, but then resurfaced again.

She told Metro: ‘I’ve been so mortified, upset and anxious but now I am just angry. I’ve done my best to separate myself from it but last Wednesday I got a message from a girl I went to school with. She told me I was on this website.

‘My pictures have been on Reddit and porn sites but this website was the biggest collection I’ve seen.’

‘The whole thing is appalling. So many people are driven to such anxiety and a lot of people are finding out about the pictures for the first time. They’re in deep pain.’

Revenge porn is a crime under the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015.

Figures obtained by the BBC show while the number of cases investigated by police has risen 117 per cent between 2015/16 and 2018/19, the number of charges dropped 24 per cent.

More than a third of victims opted not to proceed with cases in the last year.

The Ministry of Justice said: ‘The motive for this crime is almost always malicious, rather than sexual.’
