Rhode Island Family Puts Christmas Lights Up to Spread Cheer During Coronavirus Pandemic

A family in Rhode Island put Christmas lights back up on a tree in their front yard on Monday, March 16, to spread cheer in the neighborhood during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Griffin family of Cumberland called their tree the “Hope Tree,” and noted that they even got a bit of unseasonal snowfall on Tuesday morning.

Mike Griffin was prompted to put the lights up after his 10-year-old son, bored at home on Monday, asked, “Can we put Christmas lights on our tree outside to cheer us up?”

On Twitter Mike wrote: “Lights are on tonight as a sign of hope and the sweet mind of my 10-year-old.” Credit: Mike Griffin via Storyful
