What did you miss?
Richard Madeley popped the question on behalf of a woman on live television on Leap Day, 28 February.
Women all over the world are asking their partners to marry them today as is tradition on a leap year. It's an opportunity for women to seize the opportunity to ask their lover to marry them and a leap year only comes around every four years.
TV presenter Madeley asked Good Morning Britain viewer Duncan Culley to marry Rachel Mahoney who had emailed in to the show to propose on her behalf. Kate Garraway looked absolutely excited too to be a part of the proposal.
What, how and why?
Madeley said: "We need some bells because Duncan Culley - Duncan Culley I know you are watching. Your Rachel, Rachel Mahoney has emailed us about you Duncan and here's the message. She says, 'Hi guys,' that's us." At this point, Madeley pointed to himself and Kate Garraway.
He added: "'I would like you to ask my boyfriend Duncan Culley on this Leap Day...' here it comes... 'to marry me. It's been 22 years on and off we've been together and I feel this is the right time and the right day to tell you Duncan that you are the love of my life.'"
Hilariously, Garraway responded: "It wasn't so much a woman proposing, as it was Richard Madeley, but it's fabulous!"
Madeley added: "Duncan say yes. Rachel email us and tell us what happened."
Later on in the show, Garraway and Madeley were delighted to find out it was a yes. There was a huge applause in the TV studios. Madeley declared: "He said yes! Congratulations! We'll get you on the show. Send us a picture."
How did viewers react?
Some viewers shared their excitement for the newly engaged couple on social media. Among the comments, one person wrote: "Exciting! Hope it's a resounding 'yes'!"
Another added: "You should have done proposal Kate! But congrats to couple…"
Many people happily detailed their own proposals and how it all happened. One Good Morning Britain viewers said she had even just popped the question to her man as she was watching. She said: "Just proposed to my man….in bed, as he brought me a cup of tea. How romantic am I? He said 'about time, always'. I think that means yes!!! Still don’t think he believes me so could you mention it as we are lying here watching GMB….I am serious, we met on Tinder 6 years ago!"
Others added: "32 years ago I proposed and we are still together!"
"My husband proposed to me on the day for women to get down on one knee. He said it was the only time I wouldn't expect him to do it."
"I proposed to my husband with an omega watch and spaghetti alphabet bites asking marry me!?- he said no and made me take the watch back (I was a nursing student at the time and money was tight) he then proposed to me a year later."
