Richard Madeley has said "there will be a lot of 'pardon?' and 'what?'" from him for a while as he was left struggling with his hearing after contracting Covid.

The Good Morning Britain star, 67, suffered a perforated eardrum and is now finding it hard to hear on the right side.

He told The Sun that it would get better but that he has to be patient with it as his specialist has advised it can take a few weeks to heal.

“It’ll heal in time but for now it’s a total pain - it feels like I’ve got a cork in my right lughole!"

Madeley said that he had been a bit worried about Good Morning Britain but that he actually had better hearing on the ITV programme, because he wears his studio earpiece on that side and can crank up the volume as high as he needs.

He also explained that he had no trouble hearing his fellow presenter Susanna Reid as she usually sits on his left side, which is the side he can hear better on.

"But having conversations in a busy pub or office is tricky; lots of different voices and loud background noise makes it really hard to work out what someone is saying to me," added the presenter.

Madeley, who is married to TV legend Judy Finnigan, said that because it would take a few weeks for his eardrum to get better, people would hear a lot of him asking what they had said.
