What did you miss?

Richard Osman has offered Thursday Murder Club fans an exciting update on the movie adaptation.

The former Pointless host turned crime author was a guest on Wednesday's Loose Women, where he explained more about what was happening with his big screen debut.

What, how, and why?

Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club books are hugely popular and fans can't wait to see the crime capers adapted for the big screen.

It's been a long wait to see Osman's aged heroes in film, but the former Pointless host had an exciting update for Loose Women viewers on Wednesday.

Appearing on the ITV show, he was asked about working with Steven Spielberg who has the rights to make the film and said: "We're making the movie of it next year. He's producing it, we're putting the cast together at the minute.

"I spend my life having people shouting out the names of people they'd like in it at me."

But he admitted: "I have yet to meet big Steve. We've zoomed. He's alright. You know your director on this show? Just very, very similar, but with a slightly bigger house."

Osman remained tight lipped on who would star in the film - asked whether he had people in mind he would like to see in it, he said: "Yes, I do, but I sort of know who's playing the characters now, so I can't..."

There was more good news for fans of the books as Osman, who is also working on an unrelated series of novels, said he would never stop writing Thursday Murder Club stories.

He said: "They're going to come back, I'm never going to retire the Thursday Murder Club, they bring me so much joy."

What else has been happening with The Thursday Murder Club?

Back in September, Osman told the Chris Evans Breakfast Show that the Thursday Murder Club film had been affected by the Hollywood writers' strikes.

He said: "It was supposed to be filming now, and of course, it's not because of the strikes."

Evans asked whether Osman knew which big name stars might be attached to the film and he replied: "Well, not now. Because, of course, you know what actors are like. They have windows where they're available. And suddenly the window shuts, so it changes. People are still negotiating."

He added: "But that's why I didn't get involved in the films. It's a mess, that industry. Always something goes wrong."

Loose Women airs on ITV at 12.30pm on weekdays.
