Rihanna pleads to end gun violence after cousin is shot dead

Rihanna has taken to social media to pay tribute to her 21-year-old cousin Tavon Kaiseen Alleyn, who was shot dead yesterday [26 December].

The singer called for an end to gun violence after Tavon died from “multiple” gun wounds in Barbados, with Rihanna last seeing her cousin the previous day for Christmas.

Sharing a selection of photos of herself alongside Tavon, the star wrote: “RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms!

“Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man! #EndGunViolence [sic]”.

Full details of Tavon’s death are yet to be confirmed, but according to Barbados Today he “was walking through a track in the area of his house when he was approached by a man who shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene”.

Tavon was rushed to hospital following the shooting, which is reported to have happened at around 7pm, but medics were unable to save him.

As well as her Instagram post, Rihanna also shared a link to her cousin’s profile alongside the message “rest up lil cuz” and a series of crying emojis on her Instagram Story.

Rihanna and Tavon have always been incredibly close, with Tavon wishing the Grammy award winner happy birthday with a touching message earlier this year.

Sharing a photo alongside Rihanna, he wrote: “Every day we are happy to have you in our lives. Happy Birthday cousin, we really love you.

“Your presence in my life is a source of joy and happiness. To my favorite cousin, may all your dreams and wishes come true. #LoveYouLoads #wishyoumanymoretocome.”

Investigations into his death are ongoing.
