Rio Ferdinand adds fuel to Jamie Vardy to Wrexham transfer speculation

Rio Ferdinand wants to see Jamie Vardy have another crack at the Premier League with Leicester City. But the former Manchester United and England defender says if Vardy ends up leaving the King Power Stadium this summer, he would love to see him join Wrexham.

Vardy’s contract with the Foxes ends this summer and manager Enzo Maresca has already hinted the striker will be offered a new deal after firing the club to the Championship title and back to the Premier League this season. Vardy has also made it clear he has no intention of retiring .

Speaking on Vibe with FIVE , Ferdinand said: “He’s got to play another season in the Premier League. I want to see him get a couple of goals in the Premier League, it’s nice. The only club I’d like him to go to if he leaves is Wrexham."

“It’s got that Hollywood feel and he’s had a bit of a Hollywood career,” he added, with Vardy having risen from non-league football to the top.

Wrexham are planning for life in League One next season after winning promotion for the second successive year under Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. The Welsh club’s executive, Humphrey Ker, has already refused to rule out a transfer move for Vardy.

"There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player," Ker told SPORTbible . "It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before, but age and profile wouldn't put us off."
